The B.Sc.(Hons) focuses on a single area with a duration of three years. Students write a research-based dissertation or project in the final stages of their studies.

Over the three-year BSc (Hons) in Geosciences, you will gain a comprehensive education in both fundamental and applied geosciences. This program bridges scientific theory with real-world applications, ensuring you develop a strong theoretical foundation while also mastering modern geoscientific techniques. Through hands-on training in the latest experimental and computational methods in Earth and environmental sciences, you will be well-equipped to tackle contemporary challenges in the field.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Bachelor of Science – B.Sc. - and Bachelor of Science (Honours) – B.Sc.(Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Science.

On completing the programme of studies, you will be able to identify and explain the main concepts and principles underlying:

  1. Identify problems related to geophysics, geology, atmospheric science, and oceanography;
  2. Recognize and explain major global processes relevant to the geosciences;
  3. Tackle both theoretical and practical geoscientific challenges;
  4. Apply computational techniques and data analysis to solve geoscience-related problems;
  5. Conduct or contribute to relevant scientific research; and
  6. pursue further studies in geosciences or environmental science.
